Ledger.com/start – Complete Beginner Setup Guide

What Is Ledger.com/start?

The official Ledger start page is the onboarding hub for setting up all Ledger hardware wallets, including the Ledger Nano S Plus and Ledger Nano X. It guides users through device initialization, app installation, and account configuration. This page ensures you set up your wallet securely and correctly from the very beginning.

Step 1: Unbox Your Ledger Device

Inside the box, you’ll typically find:

  • Ledger hardware wallet

  • USB cable

  • Recovery sheets

  • Instruction card

Make sure the device is sealed and untampered for security purposes.

Step 2: Visit the Official Start Page

Go to the official Ledger setup page and follow the on-screen instructions.
This page ensures you download the right software, avoid phishing sites, and configure your wallet safely.

Step 3: Install Ledger Live

Ledger Live is the official application for managing your crypto assets. Through Ledger Live, you can:

  • Create accounts

  • Send and receive crypto

  • Check balances

  • Install blockchain apps

  • Update firmware

It's available for Windows, macOS, Linux, and mobile (iOS/Android).

Step 4: Set Up Your Device

Choose “Set up as a new device”

If it’s your first time using the wallet, select the option to create a brand-new wallet.

Choose a PIN Code

You will be asked to set a secure PIN. This PIN protects your device from unauthorized access.

Step 5: Secure Your Recovery Phrase

Your Ledger device will display a 24-word recovery phrase.
This is the only backup to restore your wallet if your device is lost, stolen, or damaged.

Important Rules

  • Write it down on the provided sheet

  • Never take photos of it

  • Never store it online

  • Never share it with anyone

If someone has your recovery phrase, they have full access to your crypto.

Step 6: Verify Your Recovery Phrase

Ledger will ask you to confirm the 24 words to make sure you wrote them correctly. This step is crucial for wallet recovery.

Step 7: Install Crypto Apps

Using Ledger Live, install the apps needed for the cryptocurrencies you want to manage (for example, Bitcoin, Ethereum, Solana, etc.).

Each blockchain requires its own app inside the device.

Step 8: Add Accounts and Start Using Your Wallet

Once apps are installed, you can:

  • Add blockchain accounts inside Ledger Live

  • Receive crypto using verified addresses

  • Send crypto securely using your hardware wallet

  • Track your portfolio

Your private keys stay safely inside the Ledger device, never on your computer or internet.
